FROM CAD MODEL TO ACCURATE PRODUCT OR TOOLING WITH EASE
Tooling Solutions can offer you a turnkey solution for your patternmaking and soft tooling requirements. Whether economical tooling is required for small production or prototype samples, or durable equipment for larger production quantities or automated processes, we can tailor to your material and construction requirements.
With technology such as 3D Solid Modelling, 5 Axis CNC Machining and 3D Printing, we are able to turn your virtual idea or engineered model into reality. And with an experienced team of tradesmen and industrial designers we can also accurately recreate your product from a 2D drawing, templates or sample product.

3 DIMENSIONAL PRINTING

Tooling Solutions uses the Z-Corp printing system for rapid transformation of a CAD (virtual) model into a 3 dimensional physical model.
The printer produces a three dimensional model in a plaster type material. This can be treated to produce a robust model, or be used as pattern equipment or mould to produce an aluminium casting or polyurethane prototype in a short period of time.

Key advantages of 3D printing:
Economical compared to STL or SLA
Accurate to approx ±0.1mm
Good finish for aluminium castings
Prints roughly A4 shape but larger
objects can be assembled and glued.
Full colour models can also be printed if required
Easy medium to work with for model making/painted finishes
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT TRAINING ...
As a trade, Engineering Patternmaking has existed in some form for over 2000 years. However, timber patternmaking as we know it has only existed in western society for a little over 100 years. Over the years, Patternmakers have developed unique skills and techniques which can be applied to many industries, materials and manufacturing methodologies. With the introduction of Computer Aided Manufacturing, the trade continues to evolve and is developing further skills and avenues for manufacturing. At Tooling Solutions we believe that this high level skill set of our tradesmen is a result of the investment in training, both through the apprenticeship system and our own training programs. Tooling Solutions remains committed to training Patternmakers for the future of the manufacturing industry in Australia. If you know someone who might be interested in a challenging trade and career, please contact us for further details.
RANGE OF MATERIALS
Tooling Solutions uses a wide range
of materials. The following list is
representative but not exhaustive:
Timber
Primarily Jelutong or Agathis
Cast Aluminium
Epoxy Resins
Gravity and vacuum
Cast Polyurethane
Tooling Board and
Modelling Paste
Foams
Polystyrene, Closed Cell,
Polyurethane

CNC MACHINED TOOLING
Tooling Solutions uses the latest version of Top Solid
for solid modelling and to program the BDG 5 Axis
CNC Router. The software and router have the
following advantages:
Complex shapes can be generated just as easily
and accurately as simple geometry
Accurate to a high dimensional tolerance over
large distances
Wide variety of materials can be machined
Supports a wide range of CAD model formats
CAST ALUMINIUM TOOLING and PROTOTYPES
Tooling Solutions has an in house Aluminium Foundry
which can cast up to 80kg. We specialise in high quality
and low production run castings. High quality castings
are a must for production plastic tooling whether for
rotational moulding, vacuum forming, rim moulding,
composite lay-up or infused moulds.
Utilising 3D printing technology, we can also cast
aluminium prototypes from CAD model within days a
relatively inexpensive way to prove a design before
investing in patterns or dies.
